What is Tablofarsh

Tablofarsh is a form of Persian woven art created primarily for visual appreciation rather than functional use. From a distance it resembles a painting; up close it reveals thousands of meticulously placed knots working together as image and texture.
The Journey of Creation
Each Tablofarsh begins with carefully selected natural wool and silk, chosen for their durability, softness, and richness of color.
Skilled artisans guide these materials through six precise stages, from preparation and dyeing to weaving and finishing. Every step is done by hand, combining traditional techniques with careful quality control.
Depending on the design and size, the process can take months or even years. The result is a finely crafted piece made to last for generations.
"In every knot lies a story, in every thread a tradition, in every Tablofarsh a masterpiece."

Raw Materials
The creation of a tablofarsh begins with the careful selection of raw materials. Fine silk and high-quality wool are chosen for their strength, texture, and ability to carry color. The purity of these fibers directly influences the clarity, durability, and visual depth of the final artwork.
Duration: 1-2 weeks

Material Processing
Once selected, the fibers undergo cleaning, spinning, and dyeing. Natural or controlled dyes are applied to achieve precise color tones, ensuring long-term stability and harmony across the design. This stage transforms raw fibers into refined threads ready for detailed weaving.
Duration: 2-4 weeks

Pattern Design
The visual concept is translated into a detailed weaving pattern, often derived from paintings, miniatures, or original compositions. Colors, shading, and proportions are carefully mapped to match the limitations and possibilities of knot-based imagery. This pattern serves as the blueprint for the entire work.
Duration: 1-3 weeks

Base Preparation
Before weaving begins, the loom is prepared and the foundation threads are tensioned with precision. The stability and alignment of this base determine the accuracy of the final image. A well-prepared foundation ensures consistency across thousands of knots.
Duration: 1-2 days

Weaving
Weaving is the most time-intensive stage, where the design is built knot by knot. Each thread is placed according to the pattern, requiring focus, patience, and technical mastery. Over weeks or months, the image gradually emerges from the woven surface.
Duration: 2–12 months (depending on size & detail)

Framing & Finishing
After weaving is complete, the piece is carefully trimmed, cleaned, and stabilized. It is then mounted and framed to protect the textile while enhancing its visual presence. Proper finishing allows the tablofarsh to be displayed as a lasting work of art.
Duration: 3-10 days
